The Somali government announced that all seven attackers who stormed the Godka Jilow prison complex in Mogadishu were killed after hours-long heavy clashes.
Authorities said the attack — the largest in the capital in months — was carried out by al-Shabab fighters using military vehicles and uniforms resembling those of security forces.
The prison is known to hold several al-Shabab members. Security forces imposed a strict cordon around the area and confirmed that they had foiled an attempted prison break.
