The International Organization for Migration said Monday that 5,355 people, representing 1,071 families, were displaced from the city of Qaysan and seven villages in Sudan’s southeastern Blue Nile state between August 12 and 15 due to deteriorating security conditions.
The organization said the displaced people moved to other areas within Qaysan and to the localities of Ar-Roseires and Wad Al Mahi.
The displacement followed clashes and attacks in the area amid the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, which has killed tens of thousands and displaced around 13 million people.
