U.S. Begins Gradual Easing of Sanctions on Syria to Support Economic Recovery and Reconstruction

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bissent announced on Wednesday the launch of a phased plan to ease sanctions on Syria, in a move aimed at fostering economic stability and facilitating reconstruction efforts following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

In an official statement, Bissent said the decision reflects the United States’ commitment to supporting the Syrian people and advancing international efforts to rebuild critical infrastructure and improve living conditions across the country.

The initial steps will include the relaxation of restrictions on key sectors such as energy, transportation, and financial transactions. However, targeted sanctions will remain in place against individuals and entities linked to human rights abuses or associated with the former regime.

The U.S. government hopes this measured policy shift will help pave the way for international investment and humanitarian aid previously hampered by sanctions, as part of a broader vision to reintegrate Syria into the global economic system.
