U.S. Reduces Military Presence in Nigeria Following Anti-ISIS Operation

The United States announced it is reducing its military presence in Nigeria by withdrawing a significant portion of its approximately 200 troops stationed in the country following the completion of a joint operation against ISIS in the country’s northeast.

U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) said it would continue cooperating with Nigeria on intelligence sharing and technical support despite the troop reduction, as security threats linked to extremist groups persist in the Lake Chad region.
