The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution declaring Israel’s continued occupation and annexation of the Syrian Golan Heights as “illegal,” and calling for its withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 lines.
The Egypt-drafted resolution passed with 123 votes in favour, seven against and 41 abstentions.
The text states that Israel’s 14 December 1981 decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Golan is “null and void and without international legal effect.”
