The UN Security Council on Thursday renewed the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon for one more year, with operations set to end by late 2026.
A gradual troop withdrawal — currently numbering 10,800 — will begin in coordination with Beirut.
The resolution aims to ensure the Lebanese government remains the sole authority responsible for security north of the “Blue Line.”
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the decision and urged the Israeli occupation to withdraw from the five remaining occupied points.
