US Embassy in Tunisia to scale back operations due to labor law changes

The United States Embassy in Tunisia said on Friday it will scale back its operations starting December 8, citing the impact of recent amendments to the country’s labor law.

A source at the embassy told Tunisia’s official news agency TAP that the mission is in regular contact with Tunisian authorities to resolve the issue and resume normal operations as soon as possible.

The source said the implementation of the revised labor law has limited access to essential local services needed for the embassy’s routine activities. The mission has launched an internal recruitment process to address staffing matters.

The embassy added that all visa services and routine assistance for US citizens will be rescheduled once normal operations resume.
