At least six people, including four children, were killed on Wednesday in a suicide bombing that targeted a school bus in the Khuzdar district of Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, which has seen a sharp rise in violence in recent months.
According to AFP, the explosion occurred as the bus was transporting students to a school attended by children of military personnel and local residents. Among the victims were the bus driver and his assistant, in addition to the four children. Several others were reported injured.
In a strongly worded statement, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused neighboring India of supporting the militants responsible for the attack, denouncing it as a “cowardly and terrorist act,” and vowed a firm response.
The bombing comes just two weeks after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Pakistan and India, aimed at ending one of the most intense periods of cross-border violence in decades. The incident has reignited tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, raising concerns about renewed escalation.
