The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said Monday that eight armed men boarded and took control of a cargo ship off the Somali coast.
The agency did not disclose the ship’s name, flag or type of cargo, nor did it identify the gunmen or officially classify the incident as piracy.
There was no information on the number or condition of the crew members or the ship’s current destination.
Waters off Somalia have witnessed similar incidents in recent months, including the hijacking of a fuel tanker and a cement carrier, as well as the seizure of the Asana tanker in the Gulf of Aden.
