The number of fatalities from the devastating floods that struck the town of Mokwa in central Nigeria earlier this week has risen to more than 150, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency reported on Saturday.
Agency spokesperson Ibrahim Udo Hussaini stated that the floods have displaced over 3,000 people and completely destroyed at least 265 homes. Two major bridges were also washed away by the powerful floodwaters.
Rescue teams are continuing operations in search of those still missing, as humanitarian conditions in the affected areas remain critical.
