Morocco to Invest $4.2 Billion in Airport Upgrades Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco announced plans to invest 4.2 billion U.S. dollars (38 billion dirhams) over the next five years to expand and modernize its main airports in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

According to a government statement, an agreement has been signed between the Moroccan government and the National Airports Office (ONDA) to carry out the upgrades.

The plan includes 25 billion dirhams allocated for airport expansion and 13 billion dirhams for maintenance, modernization, and land acquisition. The goal, the statement added, is to enhance the flexibility and longevity of the national airport network.

As part of the strategy, Morocco aims to increase its airport passenger capacity from 38 million currently to 80 million by 2030.
