The “Global Freedom Flotilla” announced on Monday that its first mission will depart for the coast of Gaza in late August, aiming to challenge the Israeli blockade that has led to what humanitarian organizations describe as an unprecedented famine among Palestinians.
The announcement was made during a press conference held by the “Joint Action Coordination for Palestine” — a non-governmental organization — at the headquarters of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia.
Haifa Al-Mansouri, a member of the flotilla, stated that representatives from 44 countries gathered in Tunisia over the past few days to prepare for participation in the mission.
“This initiative is a collective international effort to highlight the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and demand an end to the blockade,” Al-Mansouri said, emphasizing that the flotilla seeks to raise global awareness and express solidarity with the Palestinian people.
