Senegal secured third place at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after defeating Sudan 4-2 on penalties in the bronze medal match on Friday evening at Mandela National Stadium.

The game ended 1-1 in regular time. Sudan took an early lead through Mohamed Tia Assad, who scored in the fifth minute, before Senegal’s Ndiaye equalized in the 58th minute.

With no further goals, the match went to a penalty shootout, where the Teranga Lions held their nerve to prevail, leaving Sudan to settle for fourth place in the continental tournament for home-based players.
