Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania’s film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, following a screening that was met with a 23-minute standing ovation.
The documentary recounts the tragedy of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli occupation forces in Gaza last year, along with her family and ambulance crews.
Ben Hania said the film “immortalizes Hind’s voice and tells the story of an entire people’s suffering.”
