The UN Security Council will convene an emergency session on Wednesday to discuss Israel’s airstrike on the Qatari capital Doha, which Israel said targeted a meeting of Hamas leaders, diplomatic sources told AFP.
The session was requested primarily by Algeria and Pakistan, amid mounting regional tensions following the unprecedented attack.
Meanwhile, several Western nations condemned the strike. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the attack “undermines the Gaza ceasefire, violates Qatar’s sovereignty, and risks fueling regional escalation.”
