The Portuguese government announced it will formally recognize the State of Palestine this coming Sunday, joining a joint European initiative involving ten countries, including France.

The declaration is expected at a conference in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The move aims to support the political path toward a two-state solution, amid intensifying aggression by the Israeli occupation on Gaza.
