The announcement comes just days after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order guaranteeing Qatar’s security, including provisions for a potential military response to defend the Gulf state in the event of an attack.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Friday that Washington has approved the construction of a new Qatari Air Force facility at Mountain Home Air Base in the northwestern state of Idaho.
Speaking at the Pentagon alongside Qatari Defense Minister Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Hegseth said, “Today we are signing a letter of approval to establish a Qatari Emiri Air Force facility at Mountain Home Air Base.”
He added that the site will host a fleet of Qatari F-15 fighter jets and pilots to enhance joint training and boost combat readiness between the two nations.
