Trump to Host Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa in First Official Visit to Washington

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to receive Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on Monday, marking the first official visit by a Syrian head of state to Washington.

The visit follows a significant diplomatic development, as the UN Security Council voted on Thursday to remove al-Sharaa’s name from the international terrorism sanctions list—a move seen as paving the way for Syria’s gradual reintegration into the global community after years of isolation under former President Bashar al-Assad.

During the trip, al-Sharaa is expected to sign an agreement at the White House confirming Syria’s accession to the U.S.-led international coalition against ISIS.

Prior to his arrival in Washington, al-Sharaa attended the UN Climate Conference (COP30) in Brazil, where he held discussions with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
