Bangladeshi authorities have once again requested India to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after a court this week sentenced her to death by hanging for suppressing a student uprising through a deadly security crackdown.
The 78-year-old Hasina fled to India following the fall of her regime in August 2024. During her tenure, she enjoyed significant support from New Delhi.
Bangladesh’s acting Foreign Minister Towhid Hossain told reporters, “We have sent an official request for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina,” without providing further details on the message’s content. This marks the third formal extradition request since her flight, according to the Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo.
