General Horta N’Tam was sworn in on Thursday as the interim president of Guinea-Bissau, a day after the military seized power and ousted President Umaro Sissoco Embaló.
State television reported that N’Tam took the oath of office in an official ceremony at the Armed Forces headquarters, marking the start of a one-year transitional period.
On Wednesday, a group of soldiers announced on state TV that they had assumed control under the name “High Military Command for the Restoration of Order,” citing attempts by certain politicians and a well-known drug baron to destabilize the country.
