On Thursday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that over 378,000 Syrian refugees have returned from Lebanon to their home country, coinciding with the launch of the 12th phase of the Safe Return program, which began in early July.
In a post on the social media platform X, the UN agency stated that “continued support remains essential to ensure a safe, dignified, and sustainable return” for the returning refugees.
The UNHCR added that “the 12th batch of the Lebanese government’s voluntary return plan for Syrian refugees departed from the capital, Beirut, this morning, transporting refugee families back to their homes in Homs, Hama, Idlib, as well as Damascus and its suburbs.”
