Authorities ordered tens of thousands of people to evacuate parts of Washington and Oregon in the United States and western Canada on Thursday after heavy rainfall caused rivers to flood.
The U.S. National Weather Service reported that some areas received up to 250 millimeters of rain over the past few days. Residents south of Seattle were ordered to leave their homes, while aerial images showed farmland submerged under water. Northern areas, including Snohomish and Sumas, were also flooded.
The U.S. military deployed dozens of National Guard personnel to assist in relief efforts, with another 200 sent to affected locations.
