Amnesty International Urges Tunisia to Overturn Jail Sentence for Lawyer Ayachi Hammami, Calls for Release of All Defendants in “State Conspiracy” Case

Amnesty International on Friday evening called on Tunisian authorities to overturn the prison sentences issued against lawyer Aliachi Hammami, who is detained in connection with the so-called “conspiracy against state security” case, and also urged the release of all other defendants in the same case.

Tunisian authorities had arrested Hammami on December 2, executing a court ruling that sentenced him to five years in prison.

Since his detention, Hammami has been on a hunger strike, protesting what he says is a denial of his right to a fair trial.
