German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Monday downplayed the risk of a U.S. military attack on Greenland, following repeated threats by President Donald Trump to take control of the Danish island, a NATO ally.
Asked about the possibility of unilateral U.S. military action after meeting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Wadephul said, “I have no indication that this is being seriously considered.”
He added, “I believe there is a shared interest in addressing the security issues arising in the Arctic region, and that is what we should and will do,” according to Agence France-Presse.
