Egypt: Education Minister Referred to Trial for Failing to Execute Court Ruling

Egypt’s Public Prosecution has referred Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel Latif to trial for allegedly refusing to implement a 2013 court ruling, according to lawyer Amr Abdel Salam.

The ruling requires the ministry to evacuate a leased school building in Minya Governorate, with the lawsuit alleging delays despite the ruling predating Abdel Latif’s appointment.

Although the ruling was issued before he took office, prosecutors argue he is legally responsible for execution as the head of the ministry.

The New Cairo Misdemeanor Court has set May 13 as the trial date.
