Hundreds took to the streets of Copenhagen in a large demonstration in support of Greenland amid escalating controversy over remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump demanding that the island come under Washington’s control.

Protesters waved Greenland’s flag and held anti-Trump banners reading “One Hand for Freedom” and “Americans Here Say No.”

The rallies coincided with a visit by a U.S. congressional delegation to Denmark and Greenland aimed at assuring allies that Trump’s statements do not reflect a broad political consensus in Washington.
