Landslide in Indonesia Kills 8, Dozens Still Missing

A landslide in West Java province, western Indonesia, has killed at least eight people, while more than 80 others remain missing, according to local authorities.

The risks have increased amid the ongoing rainy season, which lasts until March. Environmental experts attribute the growing frequency of such disasters to deforestation, which weakens the soil’s ability to absorb water.

Indonesia has witnessed deadly floods in recent months that claimed hundreds of lives.
