Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed shirts for the Gaza “Al-Irada” amputee football team in a gesture of solidarity with Palestine, the team said on social media.
In a post on Instagram on Thursday titled “When determination meets genius!”, the team said its players had received a special message and signed shirts from Guardiola.
“From the heart of Gaza to the summit of world football, our champions in the Gaza Al-Irada amputee football team received a special message and signature from the ‘philosopher’ Pep Guardiola,” the team said.
It added that the signed shirt was “not just a piece of cloth, but a badge of honour carried by every player who overcame injury and chased his dream,” thanking Guardiola for his support.
Manchester City did not immediately comment on the gesture.
