Several Arab and Islamic countries and organisations on Monday rejected Israel’s decision to register land in the occupied West Bank as what it calls “state property,” urging international action to halt what they described as violations.
Statements were issued by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt and Jordan, as well as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The reactions followed the Israeli government’s approval on Sunday of a decision allowing the registration of Palestinian land in the West Bank as “state property,” in what officials described as the first such move since 1967.
Under the decision, land in Area C for which Palestinians cannot prove ownership could be registered in the name of the state, according to the Israeli government.
There was no additional immediate comment from Israeli authorities on the Arab and Islamic statements.
