Israeli media reported that newly disclosed plans indicate an official push to accelerate the takeover of additional land in Jerusalem by extending the city’s boundaries to areas held before the 1967 war.
The reports came a day after Israel approved a decision allowing land in the occupied West Bank to be registered as what it calls “state property,” a move that drew Palestinian, Arab and European criticism.
Palestinian groups and several Arab and European states condemned the decision, saying it undermines stability and prospects for peace.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said in a statement that the move represents “plans aimed at imposing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank,” stressing that “Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Palestinian land.”
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli government on the criticism.
