UK Pledges £5 Million in Emergency Aid to Support Displaced in Lebanon

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced on Monday more than £5 million (about $6.6 million) in emergency humanitarian funding to support vulnerable civilians and displaced people in Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli military operations since early March.

In a statement, the British Embassy in Beirut said the funding will be delivered through humanitarian partners including the World Food Programme, the Lebanese Red Cross via the British Red Cross, and the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Cooper warned of a widening conflict, noting that recent developments have resulted in civilian casualties and large-scale displacement.

The statement added that the UK assistance will be coordinated with the Lebanese government to provide medical supplies and relief aid to thousands of affected families.

Emergency support includes 1,000 ready-to-eat meals, 2,500 hygiene kits, 1,000 blankets, and 2,500 fuel vouchers distributed to displaced people through the Lebanese Red Cross.
