Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said in a written message published on Thursday that a “new chapter” for the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz has begun following the outbreak of war between Iran and both United States and Israel on February 28.
Khamenei stated that the new management approach for the Strait of Hormuz would bring “calm and progress” as well as economic benefits for Gulf countries. He added that Tehran would secure the maritime region and address what he described as “enemy violations of the waterway.”
He further emphasized that Iran shares a “common destiny” with its Gulf neighbors, warning that foreign actors who “commit wrongdoing,” as he put it, have “no place except the depths of the waters,” in remarks widely seen as escalatory.
