The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced Monday that the US carried out new airstrikes against ISIS targets in northeastern Nigeria in coordination with the Nigerian government.

In a statement, AFRICOM said the military strikes were conducted on Sunday and targeted extremist positions in a region facing a growing insurgency and armed violence.

The US command has not yet released further details regarding casualties or the exact locations targeted in the operation.
