Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded to remarks by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who accused Iran of using Lebanon as a bargaining chip in international negotiations and called on Tehran to stop interfering in Lebanese affairs.
In a post on X, Araghchi said that if Lebanon had truly been a negotiating card, Iran would have reached an agreement with Washington long ago.
He argued that some statements create the impression that Iran is responsible for Lebanon’s suffering, while pointing instead to ongoing military actions against Lebanon, in an apparent reference to Israel.
Araghchi concluded by urging Lebanese leaders to focus on what he described as Lebanon’s “real enemy” rather than blaming Iran.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei appeared to respond indirectly to Aoun through a post written in Lebanese dialect on X, criticizing those who abandon their allies and move closer to their opponents, without mentioning anyone by name.
