British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom will provide enriched uranium for Ukraine’s nuclear power plants and introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia ahead of a Group of Seven session focused on the war in Ukraine.
In a statement released Monday evening, Starmer condemned what he described as Russia’s “brutal strikes” against Ukraine and said London intends to intensify its response by increasing pressure on Moscow and strengthening support for Ukraine’s energy sector.
The British government said that approximately £210 million in export financing will enable the company Urenco to supply enriched uranium to Energoatom, Ukraine’s state nuclear energy operator.
Starmer reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to supporting Ukraine, stating that the United Kingdom would stand by the country for as long as necessary.
The measures form part of broader Western efforts to bolster Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and resilience amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
