Hamas announced the election of Khalil Al-Hayya as head of its political bureau, succeeding Yahya Sinwar.

Al-Hayya is one of the movement’s most prominent leaders and headed its negotiating delegation in ceasefire talks.

He also took part in managing the movement’s affairs as part of the interim leadership formed after Sinwar’s death.

The head of the political bureau is responsible for setting the movement’s general policies, managing foreign relations, and overseeing its strategic affairs.
