The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported an explosion near an oil tanker approximately 60 nautical miles east of the Omani capital Muscat, with no injuries reported among the crew.
The agency stated that the ship’s captain reported an explosion near the rear port side at the waterline, causing part of the fuel to leak into the sea, while relevant authorities launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The development comes amid rising security tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Arabian Sea, alongside ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations concerning reopening the strait and easing regional escalation.
