Iran has begun the official funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in events scheduled to last six days across Iran and Iraq before his burial in the city of Mashhad.
Thousands of mourners gathered at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, where the casket was placed on a flower-covered platform, as authorities imposed heightened security measures and traffic restrictions.
According to the announced schedule, the funeral ceremonies will continue until July 9 before the burial takes place in his hometown of Mashhad.
