Libya’s 4+4 Dialogue Committee adopted a new mechanism on Tuesday to select a consensus candidate to head the High National Elections Commission after the previous process stalled.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said the committee also continued drafting the final agreement on the legal framework governing presidential and parliamentary elections and scheduled a new meeting for the first week of August.
The move forms part of UN-led efforts to end Libya’s political division and pave the way for nationwide elections.
