Metropolitan Police Service announced on Wednesday the creation of a special security unit aimed at protecting the Jewish community, following a series of attacks targeting Jewish individuals in the UK.
According to Agence France-Presse, the new “Community Protection Team” will initially include 100 additional officers, combining neighborhood patrols with specialized counter-terrorism and protective capabilities.
The unit will provide a more visible presence supported by intelligence-led coordination, focusing on safeguarding Jewish gatherings across London.
The announcement comes after police opened an investigation into an arson attack at a former synagogue site in East London, as well as a stabbing incident last week in Golders Green, where two Jewish men were injured. A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
