U.S. police said one person was killed and another critically injured in a shooting on Sunday at San Pedro Square in San Jose, California, a popular entertainment venue that hosts a FIFA World Cup fan zone.
Police said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide.
Several streets surrounding the area were closed as investigators worked to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
San Pedro Square is one of several major fan gathering locations in the San Francisco Bay Area where World Cup matches are shown on giant screens, although no match was being broadcast at the time of the incident.
