Paraguay pulled off a major upset by defeating Germany 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw following extra time at Boston Stadium, securing a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Julio Enciso gave Paraguay the lead in the 41st minute after connecting with a cross from Miguel Almirón.
Germany equalized in the 54th minute through a header by Kai Havertz, sending the match level for the remainder of regulation and extra time.
Paraguay ultimately prevailed 4-3 on penalties and will face the winner of the France-Sweden match in the quarterfinals.
