Separatist Group Claims Responsibility for Pakistan Train Bombing

An armed separatist group claimed responsibility Sunday for a powerful bombing targeting a passenger train in southwestern Pakistan, amid conflicting reports over the death toll following the attack in the troubled province of Balochistan.

A police spokesperson told the German Press Agency that at least 30 people were killed and more than 100 others injured in the explosion, which occurred in Quetta, the provincial capital.

However, Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper later cited a preliminary provincial government report stating that at least 14 people were killed and 20 others wounded in what was described as a suicide attack targeting the train. The report added that three soldiers were among the dead.

A faction affiliated with the separatist Baloch Liberation Army, which seeks independence for Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Balochistan remains one of Pakistan’s most unstable regions, where separatist and militant groups frequently target security forces and infrastructure.
