Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Sunday that Tehran is prepared to reassure the international community that it is not seeking nuclear weapons, while stressing that Iran will not compromise on what he described as the country’s “honor and dignity” during negotiations.
Pezeshkian said the Iranian negotiating team would continue defending the nation’s interests, emphasizing that any agreement must preserve Iran’s sovereignty and rights.
Meanwhile, a senior Iranian source told Reuters that the proposed memorandum of understanding with the United States would be submitted to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for final approval if endorsed by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The Iranian remarks came after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said an announcement regarding the Iran crisis could come within hours, noting progress in talks with support from Gulf states.
Rubio reiterated Washington’s opposition to Iran obtaining nuclear weapons and said ongoing discussions involve technical issues related to Tehran’s nuclear program.
