5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Greek Island of Karpathos

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck off the coast of the Greek island of Karpathos in the Aegean Sea on Thursday, according to the Athens Institute of Geodynamics.

Greek authorities said preliminary reports indicated no casualties or material damage.

The earthquake occurred at 11:06 a.m. local time at a depth of 13 kilometers, approximately 11 kilometers off the coast of Karpathos.

The tremor was also felt on the nearby Greek islands of Rhodes and Kasos, as well as along Turkey’s western coast, local media reported.

The same area was hit by a magnitude 5.0 earthquake ten days earlier due to its location on an active geological fault in the Aegean Sea.
