South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Saturday ordered his government to make every effort to address the arrest of more than 300 South Korean nationals during a U.S. immigration raid at a Hyundai Motor battery plant in Georgia.
Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said a special task force has been set up to respond to the situation, adding that he is prepared to travel to Washington to meet U.S. officials if necessary.
Earlier, the South Korean Foreign Ministry confirmed that a large number of nationals were detained in the raid and urged Washington to respect their “legitimate rights” and ensure fair treatment under international law.
The incident has raised concerns in Seoul about potential diplomatic tensions and its impact on Korean investments in the United States.
