COP30 Climate Summit: Brazil Extends Talks to Resolve Key Disputes

Brazil announced on Wednesday that negotiations at the COP30 climate summit will be extended until Saturday, allowing more time for countries to bridge differences over contentious issues such as climate targets and the financial resources needed to achieve them.

The decision aims to facilitate progress toward a global consensus, as divisions remain between developed and developing nations over climate funding and shared responsibilities.

Brazil is leveraging its strong ties with China, India, and other developing countries to help build common ground and move discussions forward before the summit concludes.

The unresolved issues were initially expected to be finalized during Wednesday’s session. However, the conference chair, diplomat André Corrêa do Lago, announced the extension, stating that “countries have engaged in open and honest discussions, but more time is needed to reach agreement.”
