Neymar announced his retirement from international football after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Brazil captain scored his team’s only goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time before delivering an emotional farewell message to supporters, saying: “I tried, and now it’s over… I started here, and I finish here.”

The defeat marked Brazil’s earliest World Cup knockout-stage exit since the 1990 tournament.
