Norway, Denmark and Sweden Refuse to Face Russia at Hockey Worlds

The ice hockey federations of Norway, Denmark and Sweden announced that their national teams would refuse to face Russia at the 2027 Men’s World Championship in Germany, citing security concerns and the continuing war in Ukraine.

The federations said their decisions reflected opposition to Russia’s participation in international competitions and their responsibility for players’ and staff members’ safety.

The announcements followed a reported Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling allowing Russian teams to return to international federation competitions.

In Finland, the city of Turku threatened to withdraw from hosting the 2028 World Junior Championship, while sponsors warned they could end their partnerships if Russia participated.
