Mali’s Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in an attack in the العاصمة Bamako, claimed by the al-Qaeda-linked group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin.
Camara, 47, was a key figure within the ruling military council, and his death represents a major blow to the leadership.
He was also known for reshaping Mali’s military partnerships, notably strengthening ties with Russia while reducing French influence.
In a separate development, Tuareg rebels in Kidal announced an agreement for the withdrawal of Russian forces, claiming full control of the northern city.
These developments highlight escalating security and political tensions in Mali amid ongoing instability in the Sahel region.
